Smoke Free Colleges

"Change is in the Air" on all four of the Los Rios Community College campuses this fall. Students, faculty and staff will return to healthier campuses this year. Now Cosumnes River College, Folsom Lake College and Sacramento City College join their sister college, American River College, as smoke, tobacco and vape free colleges.

STAND's SMOKE-FREE colleges campaign empowers educational institutions (colleges, universities and vocational institutions) to address and reduce the harms of tobacco smoke and electronic smoking device aerosol as well as provides cessation resources for those who want to quit.

Tobacco, smoke and vape free colleges are great for students, faculty and the community. Most institutions of higher learning have policies restricting tobacco product use on campus.

STAND has assisted the following colleges with smoke-free policies:

100% tobacco, smoke and vape free:

  • American River College
  • Cosumnes River College
  • Folsom Lake College
  • Sacramento City College

Campuses with designated smoking areas (DSA):

Smoke free workplaces reduce the immediate effects of secondhand smoke on nonsmokers such as decreasing secondhand smoke asthma triggers, upper respiratory infections and lessening bronchitis. Smoke-free policies help to create a healthier environment for everyone, making it more inviting for students, staff and the community.
